Podcast: Ama Biney Discusses the Importance of Africa Telling Its Own Stories
Dr Ama Biney, editor of Pambazuka News and contributor to volume 5 of The Road to Democracy in South Africa, was recently interviewed by Jared A Ball on his podcast I Mix What I Like. She discusses the coverage that Pambazuka News dedicated to Trinidadian-American activist Kwame Ture on the 15th anniversary of his death.
Biney speaks about the importance of having spaces where Africans can tell their own stories: “For far too long white supremacy, in the manifestation of enslavement and colonisation of Africa, not only enforced the mineral exploitation of Africa and African people but also the occupation of Africa and moreover that occupation of Africa led to a misrepresentation of in terms of how Africa and African people were to be perceived.”
