In Haiku for Africa, Marié Heese focused on Africa and the African landscape, which lends a new dimension to this ancient Japanese art form.
Beautifully illustrated by Grahamstown-based artist Edith Bukani, the latest edition of Haiku for Africa comes complete with an audio CD, read by Natalia Molebatsi.
In a previous interview, Heese explained that she chose to write about Africa because it is the place she calls home. “While Japanese in origin, the intention of haiku could very well have been African.”
